Our top picks for an awesome weekend

It’s the weekend in Kokomo, and you know what that means …. the awesomeness is upon us!

Here’s a quick look at what’s on the books for this weekend.

Always wanted to be a star? Well, Superior V is hosting an Open Mic Jam Session tonight (that’s Friday, July 28). Tony Suffield of Tornado Alley will kick off the session and all ages are welcome to join in. There will also be a piano available for you crooners out there. RhumFest 2017 will take over Foster Park from 2 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday. For the sixth year, the music festival will feature music from Rhum Academy of Music’s students and instructors. Many former students who are now working professionally in the music business will make the trek home to perform. Headlining this year will be Visual Signals. It’s part of the Kokomo Summer Concert Series and that means it’s free! Details here.

Finish your weekend off right at The Wildcat, where there will be brunch and bottomless mimosas from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. But with Central State & 5Rabbit Cascarudos tapping starting at 5 p.m. tonight and DJ Lockstar and $1 Zombie Dust on Saturday night, there’s a chance you will spend your whole weekend at The Wildcat.

Get your motor runnin’ … get on out to the Kokomo Quarter Midget Club! At the track at 1198 Hillsdale Drive in Kokomo, they’ll host the State Series Race. The event is tonight and Saturday. Visit the club’s website here for more info.

Into quilting? Well, well, well ain’t you in luck! The One Stop Quilt Shop Hop is today (until 6 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at the Kokomo Event & Conference Center, 1500 N. Reed Road. It’s 5 bucks to get in, but you’ll find more than 25 quilt shops once you’re through the door. So worth it.

No matter how much fun you have tonight, you need to get up at a reasonable hour on Saturday and get yourself to the Kokomo Farmers Market. As always, it’s open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Mulberry and Washington streets.
